  • The normative building height in the adjacent surrounding blocks is roughly 26 meters.
  • Referred to as one of the late French president Georges Pompidou's 'Grand Projects', the tower provoked a very strong esthetical and political debate at completion. Even a number of decades later, the tower has very few Parisian supporters.
  • An express elevator reaches Le Belvédère bar on the 56th floor from the entrance lobby in 38 seconds.
  • The average surface of a floor is about 1700 m². This provides office space for about 120 to 150 people.
  • Tallest building in Western Europe and third tallest in all of Europe from 1973 - 1990; surpassed by MesseTurm in Frankfurt. Tour Montparnasse was the tallest building in France until the completion of the vertical extension of Tour First in La Défense.
  • The foundation of this building consists of 56 pillars, which are inserted 62 m into the ground.
  • On a clear day, the tower's roof terrace affords a view of 40 kilometres (25 miles).
  • In case of emergency, the terrace on the roof can be converted into a helipad in less than two minutes.
  • Originally proposed in 1956, and completed 17 years later.
  • The total surface of the façade is 40,000 m².
  • This building has three full mechanical floors.
  • When opened in 1973, the building featured the fastest lifts in Europe. With just under 40 seconds to the top, they are still among the fastest in the continent.
  • Replaced a railway station on the site where it stands.
  • The total weight of this building is 150,000 metric tons.
  • The steel frame used in this building weights about 7200 metric tons.
  • The 56th and 59th floors are open to the public, and you can get one of the best panoramic views of Paris from there.
