Facts

  • With the Ceres statue included, this is the tallest art deco building in the world outside of New York City.
  • The trading floors have a free visitors' gallery on the fifth floor.
  • The lobby features a variety of art deco floor designs, including a pattern with airplanes, steamships, & submarines in the basement.
  • The Chicago Board of Trade was the tallest building in Chicago from 1930 to 1965; surpassed by the Richard J. Daley Center.
  • This building replaced the old Board of Trade Building, which was the tallest building in Chicago from 1885-1895.
  • The 23-story Chicago Board of Trade Addition was added to the south side of this structure in 1983. Part of the south facade faces the atrium of the new building.
  • At the base of the courtyard above the main entrance is a clock topped by an eagle and flanked by two hooded figures - an American Indian holding a stalk of corn and a bearded man holding a sheaf of wheat.
  • An aluminum statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, stands on top of the roof.
